Happy Sugar Life (ハッピーシュガーライフ Happī Shugā Raifu) was first published in Square Enix's shōnen manga magazine Gangan Joker on May 22, 2015 by Tomiyaki Kagisora.

It is a work that depicts the "life" and "family ties" of a high school girl, Sato Matsuzaka, and a girl, Shio Kobe, and the environment surrounding them, but it is also a work that features the so-called "Yandere Girl". The catchphrase is "Dreadful Pure Love Psychological Horror".

On July 8, 2018, Yen Press announced that they had licensed the manga during their panel at Anime Expo. Eight tankōbon (Japanese term for a book that is not part of a series or corpus) volumes of the manga were released between October 22, 2015 and June 22, 2018 in North America. The series ended in the June 22, 2019 issue of Gangan Joker, with the ninth and tenth volumes of the manga releasing on July 22, 2019.

In the September 2014 issue of "Monthly Gangan JOKER", the one-shot "White Sugar Garden, Black Salt Cage" which is the prototype of the work, was published and recorded in two volumes of the book.

In June 22, 2022, a bonus volume was released, that depicts Shio's "after" and includes what-if and extra chapters.

Plot

High-schooler Satō Matsuzaka has a reputation for being easy, but one day her lifestyle of sleeping with one boy after another comes to an end. It happens when she meets the child Shio Kōbe, for whom she is convinced she feels true love for the first time. Satou may seem sweet and innocent, but there is nothing she won't do to protect their life together, including committing murder. But from where did she acquire the little girl, and how long can their "Happy Sugar Life" together last?
